Levels
Optionally classify groups by age, proficiency or another organisational category.
A level is an optional label assigned to a group or class. It can describe the participants’ age, proficiency or another classification used by the organisation.
Example levels include ‘Ages 6–8’, ‘Beginner’ and ‘Advanced’. A level does not replace a class type: the class type identifies the activity, while the level provides more detail about the group.
Enabling levels
Levels are an optional feature. If the Levels shortcut is not visible on the MARTA Dashboard:
- Open the MARTA Dashboard.
- Select Options from the toolbar. See Component options for full guidance.
- Open the Levels section.
- Set Use levels to Yes.
- Save the configuration.
Changing this option requires permission to configure the component. If Options is not available, contact the Joomla administrator.
How do I open the Levels list?
- Go to Components → MARTA.
- Select Levels in the settings area of the MARTA Dashboard.
You can also open Levels from the Groups list when the feature is enabled.
The list contains the title, shortened description, colour, state and identifier. Search checks the title and description, while the state filter can display archived and binned items.
Creating a level
- Select New from the Levels list.
- Enter the level title.
- Add a short description if required.
- Select a label colour if required.
- Select the appropriate state.
- Select Save & Close or Save.
Form fields
- Title — required; the label displayed with a group, up to 255 characters.
- Description — optional supporting text, up to 500 characters.
- Assign colour — an optional colour for the level label.
- Level state — determines whether the level can be displayed with the group on the website.
Create only levels that are genuinely useful for distinguishing groups. If the group name already contains the same information clearly, an additional level may duplicate content unnecessarily.
Level colour
The colour helps distinguish levels visually in the administrator area and timetable. It does not affect activity order, group availability or conflict detection.
Whether the colour appears on the website depends on the timetable view configuration. Leave the field empty if the organisation does not use colour coding.
Assigning levels to groups
A level is selected in the group or class form. A group can have no more than one level, while the same level can be used by several groups.
Assigning a level is optional. A group can operate and be placed on the timetable without one.
Level states
- Published — the level can be displayed with the group on the website.
- Unpublished — the level and assignments remain stored, but the label is not presented publicly.
- Archived — the level is retained outside the current list and is not presented publicly.
- Binned — the level is waiting to be restored or permanently deleted.
Deleting a level
A level must first be moved to the bin. Select the Binned state in the list to access permanent deletion.
If a level is not currently used, it is safer to unpublish or archive it.
What next?
After preparing the levels, create the instructor profiles that you will later assign to groups.
