Single album

Single album displays the album title and a grid of square thumbnails. Photos appear in the order saved by an administrator.

The same grid and photo viewer are used when an album is inserted into an article. The embedded form does not add the album title because headings then belong to the article content.

Opening and navigating photos

Selecting a thumbnail opens a larger image variant in a dialog over the page. You can use:

• previous and next buttons;
• a current-position counter such as 3 / 18;
• the close button;
• the Left Arrow and Right Arrow keys;
• a left or right swipe on a touch screen;
• the Escape key handled by the browser dialog.

Selecting the empty area around the image also closes the viewer. Focus returns to the previously selected thumbnail after closing.

Quality and performance

The grid uses small copies of the photos. The enlarged viewer uses a large copy, or a medium one if there is no large-copy record in the library. A missing large-copy file on disk does not trigger an automatic switch to medium; rebuild thumbnails in that situation.

The standard gallery does not use originals. The browser loads thumbnails as you approach them while scrolling, and the viewer prepares neighbouring photos to speed up navigation.

Names and accessibility

Alternative text entered in the administrator area becomes the image description and viewer-opening label. If it is empty, LENA uses the photo title and then the generic name Photo.

Every published image should have individual, concise alternative text describing its meaningful content. Avoid automatically starting it with “photo of” when those words add no information.

Visibility and an empty album

The page can open only when the album is published and its access level is available to the visitor. If the album belongs to a category, the category and its ancestors must also be published and available.

The gallery contains only active photos with the required variants. If no photo meets the conditions, it displays This album does not contain any published photos yet.

Content not displayed

The standard LENA 1.0 frontend does not display photo titles as captions, photo descriptions or the album description. A photo title is used only as a fallback for missing alternative text.

Page title and structured data

LENA sets the document title to the album title and adds ImageGallery Schema.org structured data. It includes the gallery URL and name and the image-variant URLs for visible photos. Alternative text, or the photo title when it is empty, may be used as the image name in the structured data.
