Getting started in the panel

Sign-in, navigation and the recommended LENA workflow.

Opening LENA

Sign in to the Joomla administrator area. Its standard address is:

https://example.com/administrator

Open Components → LENA. You will see the Photos library. The submenu also contains:

  • Albums — create albums, arrange photos and choose covers;
  • Categories — group albums;
  • About LENA — the component version, help links and release history.

The example below shows how to create an album and insert it into an article. It does not require a category or a LENA menu item.

  1. Go to Components → LENA → Albums and select Create album.
  2. Enter a title, such as “Family picnic 2026”. You can leave the alias empty — LENA will create it automatically.
  3. On the Other tab, set the state to Unpublished while you prepare the album. Set Access to Public if everyone should be able to view the gallery.
  4. Select Save. You can only add photos after saving the album for the first time.
  5. Open Photos in this album, select Upload from device and choose the files. Wait for the upload to finish. The photos will be added to both the album and the main library.
  6. Open each photo, complete Alternative text and select Save changes. For example: “Picnic guests sitting at tables in the garden”.
  7. Drag the photos into the required order. Use the star to choose a cover for album lists.
  8. On the Other tab, change the state to Published and select Save & Close.
  9. Open a Joomla article. Place the cursor in a separate paragraph, use LENA gallery and select the album. Save the article and make sure it is published and available to visitors.
  10. Open the article on the website in a private browser window. Check the thumbnails, enlarged viewer and navigation between photos.

If the editor button is missing, check the plugin and editor settings. To create a separate gallery page, follow Menu items.

For photos already in the library, use Add photos in the album. You do not need to upload them again.

When do you need to save changes?

What are you changing? How do you save it?
Album title, description, category, state or access Select Save, Save & Close or Save & New in the Joomla toolbar.
Photo title, alternative text or description Select Save changes in the photo viewer.
Photos assigned to the album, their order or the cover LENA saves these actions immediately. Wait for confirmation.

Closing the album form without saving does not undo actions already performed on its photos. If you accidentally remove a photo from the album, add it again from the library.

If a button or access is missing

Your account’s capabilities depend on Joomla permissions. For example, you may be able to open LENA but not upload photos or publish albums. Ask an administrator to check the permissions described in Component options.
