Menu items

Create a menu item to open a gallery as a separate page. You can select one album or a category of albums. To place photos between paragraphs, follow Galleries in articles.

Available types

• Single album — displays the title and photos from one selected album.
• Albums in a category — displays the category title and a grid of assigned albums; selecting a cover opens the album.

Creating a menu item

1. Open Menus in the Joomla administrator area and select the relevant menu.
2. Select New.
3. Enter the Menu Title.
4. Use Select next to Menu Item Type.
5. Expand LENA.
6. Select the required type.
7. Select an Album or Category to publish.
8. Set Published, access, language and any other standard Joomla options.
9. Save the item and check it on the website as an ordinary visitor.

Configuring a menu requires Joomla permissions for that menu. Permission to work with LENA alone is not sufficient.

Single album

The selector lists published albums. On the frontend, LENA also checks the album’s access level and the state and access of its category and parent categories.

If the selected album is later unpublished, trashed or hidden by access rules, the menu item URL reports that the album was not found or is unavailable.

Albums in a category

You can select a published LENA category. The view contains only published albums assigned directly to that category and available to the visitor.

Subcategories are not searched. Create a separate menu item for each subcategory requiring its own page. Albums with No category do not appear in this view.

The cover ratio and maximum number of cards per row are set globally under Component options.

Standard Joomla fields

Pay particular attention to:

• Status — the menu item must be published;
• Access — can further restrict the entire page;
• Language — create the appropriate language items on a multilingual website;
• Parent Item — controls its menu position;
• Alias — affects the URL.

After changing an album, category or menu item alias, check existing links and any redirects.

Post-publication checklist

1. Open the page in a private browser window.
2. Check the title, order, covers and every album link.
3. Open the gallery on a phone and desktop computer.
4. Check keyboard navigation and alternative text.
5. Test a restricted account if the album is not public.
